We borrow some calm land away from things big enough to camp out on for a week or so

Self powered and solar / water powered things only (unless absolutely necessary)

Big yurts and tents for workshops and events inside: 20% tech conference : 20% music festival : 20% hackspace making stuff : 20% permaculture : 20% ????

We need maybe a group of 4 or more of us to actually start this moving though

What should we call it? Any other ideas?

@Dominic

YUP! also @dinosaur I'd turn the "party" knob up a bit from those settings though.

yes i'm keen! agree with @dominic about more doof. to me the core party essentials are heaps of bass, a dance floor, a snug zone (cuddle puddles), and maybe a fire. :fire:

before i left for California i got 2 passive PA speakers and a huge subwoofer for Art~Hack. they are off-grid friendly as the speaker are powered by the amp, so i can contribute enough for a basic stage, assuming someone can provide power (will need to check how much power the system needs and if it can be done with DC input). :sound:

i can also contribute some lights, have been working on some off-grid polyledras. i learned from A Gathering In The Forest last south-summer how important good lighting is for any festival. when you can't see anybody (or only see their silhouettes), it's hard to feel comfortable and communicative. :rainbow:

@dangerousbeans

yeah am keen on more doof also :>

Someone donated a big 200w solar panel to hackland free for whatever use

Do we know anyone in any of the other makerspaces across the country?

@dominic @neftaly is it possible to put in an order for lithium batteries? i'm keen to get started with a decent setup to contribute to off-grid raves this coming south-summer.

hey I didn't say "doof" but yeah, I had been meaning to get some more solar @neftaly ... Is there any orders going through soon?

@ben

I'm keen to join this! I'll bring my camper along. We can run mikeys sound system off a 4 channel car amplifer (or maybe two) plus some massive deep cycle batteries and solar (I have 130 watts of solar + 110 ah of battery I can contribute). Mikeys sounds are perfect actually, because running off a car amplifier we'll be limited to a "loud and fun but not annoying the neighbours" soundsystem.

Do we know a location? I'll try and bring along the rest of #camp8bit. Be fun to do some programming / exploring during the day and partying at night. I'd love to play a #synth set (and @mmckegg probably would too).

Since #kiwiburn is cancelled this would be a great oulet for all our solar powered partying gear. :)

@ben

@dinosaur we got these for #kiwiburn lighting last year:

They use 9 watts (or you can undervolt them through a buck converter) and are heaps bright to shine up into trees or onto tents, and come with cute little spikes for putting them in the ground. Put them on a $3 photodiode switch and they'll turn on automatically at night and off in the morning.

could find a friend with a farm, or rent a DOC hut ?

Hmmm, @bob doesn't have a farm but he does live way out in the country. Limited things in exploring range of his place though.

Sounds epic.
I can contribute 720w of solar panels on a van roof, I have not purchased batteries yet however.
Still waiting for some sunny days (...and bravery) to cut roof fan holes before mounting panels.

there's a big spot an hour south of Auckland we're invited to use but it's a bit hilly but we can just about get vehicles in and there's some flat bits to camp

@rabble

Sounds awesome. I'll be there. Speaking of EMF camp, is anybody else on SSB going? It's in a few weeks in the UK.

@neftaly

@dinosaur I don't think I'll be able to get batteries again :( They've been cracking down on them in non-dangerous-goods containers (even safe chemistry like LiFePo4), and they won't accept them via airmail or LCL.

@Dominic What size/hardness do you want? There is one leaving this month (might be too late) and another in a few months.

hi @dangerousbeans et al, my friend Phoebe is keen to help organize if it happens in the month of February, as that is when she'll be in New Zealand. :sunny: :bird:

There is a kiwiburn replacement burn called kiwibarn at matamata which might tie into this.
