@PZqHdqUQf…

why was it abandoned?

@johnny

why is that island abandoned? looks like somebody mows the grass...

@Dominic

"abondoned" probably isn't the right word. There was a resort there in the 80s and 90s, and before that, a place for woman-alcholics to dry out, ran by the salvation army. There is just caretaker couple living on the island now. So, it's mostly empty buildings, but someone does mow the grass.

@Cameron Leslie

What's the power/water/sewer situation like there? Is it possible to camp there? So many questions.

@dangerousbeans

@Cameron Leslie it's all setup for being a resort, so all the infrastructure is in place and maintained kinda.

There's solarpanels, and a seemingly endless supply of new ones because the telecom people have their own installation for the radio link to Waiheke, which they just rip out and replace every few years.

I believe there's also a switchboard of some kind for telephoning, lol.

There's even little roads to drive around on, but I recon bikes would be better.

The island is closed to the public but you can land on the beach and I'm pretty sure we can extend an invitation to explore there again!

@Cameron Leslie

That's awesome.

As a cycling person, I totally love the idea of a bike only island. :)

@Mike

Heading to NZ in just over a months time! super excited! :D #roadtrip!
