FWIW, I actually do like how the Dark Crystal site turned out, aesthetically. What I did not like was the inaccessibility of directly updating it myself. I held back on sharing it for a long time because it looked broken on my machine, and it took ages for @dan hassan to get around to making requested changes, because he was understandably busy with other more important stuff.
If there's ever a choice between people having to create suggestions/requests/instructions to a specific person/people who are the only ones who can update the thing which actually takes as long or longer than it would have to just directly make the changes themselves if they had the access (permissions, skills, etc), or just creating it with accessible maintenance/updating from the start, always choose the latter.
I think that's what @mixmix was trying to say. He knows this because he has personally made this exact mistake multiple times (thinking "we'll just build the website ourselves" is the easier option, when it's not).
I really don't like how people in this thread came along to proclaim how a bunch of other people felt, without (as far as I can tell) asking them. Let people speak for themselves, or if you think they might need support to have their voices heard, offer them that support directly. Otherwise, I don't think inserting yourself is productive.
