Pink on turquoise looks weird to me. Odd choice of colours to combine.
Sim City had non-violent, non-adversarial game dynamics, where the aim is just to balance everything. This is true of most of the 'Sim' genre and anything made by Will Wright.
You could apply similar game mechanics to solarpunk tech - just strip out the centralised and polluting technologies, and replace them with solar panels, mesh networks, rainwater catchments, etc.
Regarding it being 'incredibly cheesy', the world is littered with good ideas clothed in clumsy art.
This is especially true in science-fiction. Look at the badly-written stories of Neal Stephenson, which inspired cyberpunk and cypherpunk movements.
What's needed is for a more capable artist to take the solarpunk ball and run with it.
